Professional Training
Professional Training at OCI
The heart of the interpreting industry relies on the excellence of interpreter training, development and the desire for continuous training. Training makes all the difference in that only the professional interpreter can successfully create access for the patient, reduce costs to the healthcare system, and provides positive outcomes for our healthcare providers by limiting missed opportunities. Welcome to OCI. We are your solution to bridging the communications gap between those who are limited in English proficiency and their access to quality healthcare and community services. Our approach is simple – continuous interpreter training in the areas of healthcare, social services, emergency services and mental health.
OUR STANDARDS
OCI strives to maintain the highest standards in the language service industry. Just as we offer
trainings for our clients, we have required assessments and
trainings for all OCI interpreters. Regardless of past experiences all candidates who wish to work and further develop
their training must undergo mandatory tests and trainings. First, the candidate must prove competency in their primary or
secondary language(s) through assessment testsprepared to meet
industry standards on language proficiency. These assessment tests comply with the standards set by the American Council
on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and recommended by the National Council on Interpreting in HealthCare (NCIHC).
However, proficiency in both primary and secondary languages is not the only factor that may qualify bi-lingual persons to
become an OCI interpreter – skills in brokering communication and professionalism conduct are also integral.
