The Spotlight this month is on Saynab Omar

Originally from Somalia, Saynab was only eleven when she embraced what she calls her “second home”, the United States. As a child of civil war, from a family that was displaced, moving from safe zone to safe zone became imperative. One of the “safest zones” was America.

Saynab was quick to appreciate the value of language and the barriers that exists when one doesn’t speak the primary language. “She was the greatest teacher!”, says Saynab, of her first ESL teacher. “She was not just my teacher&helip she change my life, believed in me and gave me hope that I thought I didn’t have!”

Miss Omar serves as an English/Somali interpreter and works in the administrative offices at OCI. Currently a sophomore in college she has worked at OCI for over a year. “I love working for OCI because OCI is not just job for me, it places me where I meet people who want a make difference and want give a voice to voices.” “OCI is the place I call home&helip; it is a place where I don’t just get a paycheck, but also creates lasting memories, provides honest work and you are rewarded by many blessings”
